The 2010 PAPSA Annual Conference will be held April 28-30 at the Eden Resort in Lancaster, PA. Note that these days are a Wednesday through Friday. There will be entertainment on Thursday evening at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. The PAPSA Board will meet on Wednesday, April 22nd from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. The theme for this year's conference is "Inconvenient Truths" of which there are plenty in education and especially in pupil services.

A pre-session is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28 from 2:00-6:00 PM. This session is in the form of a "New Directors'" symposium and will touch on the following topics that are pertinent to the individual who has recently accepted a position as a pupil services administrator, including: (A) Using the PAPSA Position Statement, (B) How the PAPSA Rubrics Can Improve Your Program, and (C) Legal issues Impacting Pupil Services. The final hour will be in the form of a panel where other issues can be raised. Members of the PAPSA Executive Board will present. Even if you are not brand new to the position of Pupil Services Administrator, you are welcome to participate. There is no additional cost for this workshop, but interested persons are asked to register so that sufficient space and handouts can be prepared.

Registration is scheduled from 7:30-9:00 PM on Wednesday and from 7:15-9:30 AM on Thursday and Friday.  

The tentative agenda for Thursday includes the following sessions:

# Parents and Educators: Agreeing to Disagree [Attorney Presentation]
# Panel Discussion of Response to Instruction and Intervention [Panelists from higher education, PaTTAN, PSEA and the grassroots]
# Update on Bureau of Community & Student Services Activities [Mary Ramirez, PDE Bureau Director]
# Update on Health Services [Jon Dale and Staff from PDH]
# Panel on Climate Change in the School 

On Thursday evening, the President's Networking Dinner will be held at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater. The play will be he classic musical "Meet Me in St. Louis" and will be accompanied by an extensive buffet dinner. A limited number of tickets will be available on a first come-first served basis. Attendees are welcome to bring their spouses or significant others. The fee for the dinner theater will be $50 per ticket.

Friday will be devoted to the Tenth Annual Paul Stevens Memorial Legal Seminar conducted by attorneys Jane Williams and Sharon Montanye from Sweet, Stevens, Katz and Williams. The morning session will focus on Pupil Services issues and the afternoon on Special Education.

A maximum of approximately 16 Act 48 hours will be available. 

In Mid-April, the weather in Lancaster is beautiful and the outlet malls are in their full glory so mark your calendars for April 28 - 30, 2010, and join your PAPSA colleagues at the conference. There is plenty to interest spouses and children in the immediate area as well.

At this point, the registration form for the conference is not yet available. It is expected that this will be offered on-line and as a mailing to all school entities about the first of the year. You can begin to schedule your room for the conference through the Eden Resort. Be sure to mention that you are attending the NAPSA Conference to obtain the best rate.
